Inaki Williams squares up to player lucky not to break his brother’s leg

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams was lucky to evade a horror tackle from Chimy Avila on Monday evening with older brother Inaki squaring up to the Osasuna striker after the challenge.

Leading 3-1 in added time, and with Osasuna throwing men forward, the Basque-based club launched a fierce counter-attack as Williams Jr sprinted up the field to try and bag a fourth goal.

And that was almost the last action of the game for the 19-year-old as Avila flew into a shocking challenge on the near touchline, centimetres away from a definite leg-breaking challenge.

Thankfully Williams was too quick for the Osasuna forward and escaped unscathed from the horror tackle.

Whilst Avila somehow managed to avoid an instant dismissal, with the referee choosing to only brandish a yellow card.

But Bilbao star Inaki raced to the defence of his younger brother, squaring up to Avila to let him know exactly what he thought of the studs-up challenge.

Both Inkai Williams and Avila received yellow cards for the confrontation that ensued and the Osasuna striker headed for an early bath, picking up his second booking in as many minutes.

Now fans on Twitter have slated the horror tackle, with many signalling that the tackle alone should have resulted in a red card for Avila.

"I like Chimy Avila but this was really disgusting, could have broken Nico Williams' leg… Nico got lucky there," said one supporter.

"He’s down 3-1 with a minute and a half left, there’s no need to do this," commented another.

While one fan stated: "Career ending if it connects and he knows it. Very dirty."
