Jadon Sancho decided he wanted to join Manchester United after they secured a top four spot and Champions League football for next season. The Red Devils beat Leicester on the final day of the Premier League season.

The victory meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men finished third in the Premier League – and secured a spot in next season’s Champions League.

United’s transfer funds will be boosted by being in the competition alongside Europe’s elite clubs.

The Red Devils will use the funds to go towards a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho, 20.

The England international dominated in the Germany last time out, netting 20 goals and chipping in with 18 assists in all competitions.

United and Dortmund are are locked in talks over a transfer fee for the former Manchester City ace.

However, it’s understood the clubs are miles apart in their valuation of Sancho, with United threatening to pull out of the deal.

Sancho is keen to return to the Premier League now the transfer window is open.

And according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Sancho decided he wanted to head to Old Trafford after they secured Champions League football for next season.

He said: “This deal is moving forward. The club are not in formal talks yet but that isn’t uncommon in these situations.

“There are intermediaries who would broker this deal before the clubs come to the table and thrash it out themselves.

“Clearly Borussia Dortmund want to get this sorted so they can crack on with their pre-season preparations.

“United won’t be bullied into rushing it. If they’re going to pay the money Dortmund want, which is £108m (€120m), they will get there.

“Of course all of these deals are done in instalments.

“Since United qualified for the Champions League, the move became more attractive to Sancho. He wants to play for a Champions League club.

“It could develop this week, there is still a lot to sort out but things are moving in the right direction.”
