Joao Cancelo DENIES falling out with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

‘It’s a lie… a complete lie!’: Joao Cancelo DENIES falling out with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City despite their training ground bust-up… as Bayern loanee claims ‘you NEVER know’ what the future holds as he opens the door to a return

  • Joao Cancelo had a training ground bust-up with Pep Guardiola before leaving
  • He has refuted that and instead claims he amicably came to an agreement to go
  • Cancelo has also kept the door open to return to City following his loan spell

Joao Cancelo has fired back at claims he fell out with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as a ‘complete lie’.

The full-back, who joined Bayern Munich on loan in January after falling out of favour at City, was quizzed on his relationship with Guardiola after Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed last month that Cancelo was involved in a furious training ground argument with Guardiola after learning he would not be starting City’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal.

Rather than fan the flames of discontent, Cancelo has instead chosen to pay thanks to Pep as he claims he has ‘nothing against City’ and that he left purely for more game time.

‘It’s a lie that I had a fight with Guardiola, a complete lie,’ he claimed to Mundo Deportivo.

Now on loan at Bayern Munich, Cancelo has not closed the door on returning to Man City

‘I didn’t feel important to the team in recent games. I spoke to the coach and he agreed.

‘I, the coach and the club decided that I had to leave, that it was the best option for me. I like new opportunities and I have nothing against City.’

Cancelo, who at one stage looked to be the best full-back in English football under Guardiola, found himself out of favour following the Premier League’s resumption after the World Cup.

The Portuguese started just three of the team’s 10 games following the tournament in Qatar, and it was claimed that Cancelo, who was ‘like a volcano’ when things were not in his favour, was unhappy with his manager.

While there is an expectation that Bayern will trigger their option-to-buy at the end of the season Cancelo, who said that he is ‘very grateful’ to Guardiola for their time together, was much more open to the prospect of returning to Manchester.

‘In football you never know and maybe I’ll be back when the season is over,’ he added.

In fairness to Guardiola, he has continued to remain magnanimous and respectful to Cancelo since he headed for Bavaria.

Cancelo claims he had no issue with Guardiola and he is ‘very grateful’ for their time together

‘First I wish him the very best in his four months [on loan]. Next season I don’t know what happens,’ Guardiola said earlier this month.

‘An incredible figure in the last two leagues we won. After the World Cup, we make a pre-season and decided to play, in some patterns different. I like what I watch. I give more time to other players.

‘His personality, mine, he loves to play. He trains the best, the situation he doesn’t play much. In the last years one of the players with more minutes.

‘He needs to play to be happy, we decide to let him go to Munich. He wants to play every single game and hopefully he can in Munich.’
