Jose Mourinho and Tottenham stars defy lockdown with public training session

Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham stars have been warned "to respect social distancing" – after the manager appeared to hold a pubic fitness session on Tuesday despite the country being under strict lockdown rules.

A video emerged in which Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon appeared to be jogging side-by-side in north London, despite the country being on lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.

It is understood that the duo were filmed by a passerby on Hadley Common near Barnet, while midfielder Tanguy Ndombele was also apparently present and Serge Aurier was seen running alongside a friend in a separate video.

And images later emerged of Mourinho – who was in full Spurs training kit – overseeing a fitness session with Ndombele and two other men, who appeared to be stretching.

The Government implemented strict rules last month in which individuals are only allowed to exercise once a day but this must be alone or with a member of their household.

It has also been reiterated several times that the public must abide by social distance rules, but some of the Spurs squad and their own manager appeared to be within close proximity of each other.

Mourinho, Sanchez, Ndombele and Sessegnon all live locally to Hadley Common where they were all pictured on Tuesday and Mirror Sport understands that social distancing was respected.

It is understood, however, that Mourinho was spoken to by senior officials at the club, who were unimpressed with the manager's actions.

A Tottenham Hotspur spokesperson said: “All of our players have been reminded to respect social distancing when exercising outdoors.

“We shall continue to reinforce this message.”

It is the latest incident in which Premier League footballers have seemingly ignored the lockdown guidelines.
