Roma manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing up Tottenham for future transfer targets, according to reports in Italy. Mourinho has made a decent start to life at Roma after he was sacked by Spurs in April and he is now considering raiding his former club to strengthen his hand in the Italian capital.

The Roma manager could find Spurs willing to do business in the upcoming transfer windows if their current malaise continues.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is under mounting pressure in north London following Spurs’ disastrous 3-1 defeat by Arsenal on Sunday.

The derby result means Tottenham have now lost three successive Premier League games, conceding nine goals in the process.

Mourinho has a strong knowledge of the Tottenham squad and, according to, he wants to raid the club to sign a midfielder with ‘great athleticism’.

That desire has led him to Tanguy Ndombele, who has endured a rollercoaster time at Spurs since his club-record £55million transfer from Lyon in June 2019.

Mourinho initially had a difficult relationship with Ndombele following his arrival as manager in November 2019.

For example, in March 2020, Mourinho said: “He has to do much better and know I cannot keep giving him opportunities to play, because the team is much more important.”

Ndombele only appeared in two more Premier League games that season, but it eventually began to click under the Portuguese manager.

In the 2020/21 season he made 46 appearances in all competitions as his form improved, but Mourinho was sacked in April and Ndombele was sidelined under interim boss Ryan Mason.

The 24-year-old pushed for a transfer in the summer after failing to earn Nuno’s trust and Spurs would have been open to selling him, according to The Athletic, partly due to his £200,000-a-week wages.

He stayed put and has begun to feature more under Nuno in recent weeks, starting all four of their most recent games in all competitions.

However, if Nuno were to be sacked, a move to Roma could conceivably be on the cards for Ndombele, who is under contract with Spurs until June 2025.

Roma are fourth in Serie A this season, with four wins and two defeats under Mourinho so far.

Tammy Abraham, who left Chelsea for Roma in a £34m transfer in the summer, has hit the ground running with two goals and two assists in the league.

However, Mourinho’s good start has begun to unravel recently, with 3-2 defeats by Verona and bitter rivals Lazio coming over the past week.
