Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed he will remain in charge of Leeds ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
Bielsa’s last contract at Elland Road expired earlier this summer, but Whites fans are still waiting on official confirmation of an extension for their manager.
The 65-year-old has been locked in talks with Leeds chiefs over the last few months, with certain reports suggesting he has been too busy enjoying their promotion to the top flight to get a deal over the line.
Yet fortunately for the Leeds faithful, ‘El Loco’ has confirmed he will remain with the club just two days before their opening fixture away at Premier League champions Liverpool.
“I will be working the next season at Leeds United,” Bielsa said today.
“Everything has been sorted and it is definite I will be here next season.”
The Athletic claim Bielsa, who has been operating on a rolling deal throughout pre-season, is set to sign a 12-month contract extension with Leeds.
Since joining the club in 2018 the Argentinian has only signed one-year deals, although he has now been in charge at Elland Road for longer than any other side in his coaching career.
He is understood to be raking in close to £6million, a fee which also covers the wages of his assistants and backroom staff.
Leeds have taken longer than expected to agree Bielsa’s extension because of the detail he goes into, as well as the need for translation between both parties.
It is believed his contract is very complex, yet Leeds were always in agreement with their manager about the terms involved from an early stage.

Bielsa’s contractual situation has not derailed the club’s preparations for their Premier League return, either, with £40million already spent on two new recruits in Rodrigo and Robin Koch.
The Whites are also being linked with another striker in the summer transfer window, while further defensive reinforcements remain on Bielsa’s wish-list.
