  • Lionel Messi will reportedly not be leaving Barcelona in January transfer window
  • Messi is set to reassess his future when his contract expires in the summer
  • The 33-year-old has been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain

Lionel Messi will reportedly stay at Barcelona in the January transfer window and won’t decide his future until next summer.

Messi has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain suggested as possible destinations.

However, according to ESPN journalist Moises Llorens, Messi will not leave Barcelona in January.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi will reportedly stay at the club during the January transfer window

Llorens stated that Messi will remain at the club at least until his contract expires on June 30.

He wrote: Messi is not going to go to any team in January, until June 30, in the @FCBarcelona_es. Then it will be seen….’

Last summer Messi came close to leaving the club where he has spent his entire career as he submitted a transfer request before eventually ending up staying.

Messi recently sparked further speculation regarding a possible move to City as he explained the influence that Pep Guardiola had while at Barcelona.

Messi is not expected to decide his future until his Barcelona contract expires next summer

There had been suggestions Messi could be reunited with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

Speaking to LaSexta, Messi said: ‘Pep has something special.

‘He makes you see things in one way: how he prepares for matches, defensively, how to attack… he told you exactly how the match was going to be, how you had to attack to win.’

There have also been suggestions of a possible move to PSG, which would see Messi link up with his former Barcelona team-mate Neymar.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be appointed as PSG manager and could look to bring Messi to the club, although it appears that he will have to wait until the summer.

This season Messi has scored ten goals and provided five assists in 18 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions.

He is currently struggling with an ankle injury and won’t be in action against Eibar on Tuesday.
