Jadon Sancho could well prove to be Pep Guardiola’s biggest transfer mistake in his tenure at Manchester City – although rumours indicate that another ex-City player could follow in Sancho’s footsteps.

The London-born winger signed for Borussia Dortmund from City in 2017 for £8million after a contract dispute at the Etihad Stadium.

The trickster then went from strength-to-strength in Germany, earning plaudits across the continent for his pace, directness and close control.

A move to Manchester United had been in the offing for ages, and he finally opted to move to Old Trafford for a fee of £73m.

City lost out a huge amount of money in Sancho and will not want the process to be repeated – although they may already have let a similar player go in Adrian Bernabe.

Bernabe, 20, left City for Italian side Parma this summmer after failing to break into the first-team in east Manchester.

He made a total of five appearances for City, but with their star-studded squad he failed to make the central midfield role his own.

And even having not yet appeared for Parma due to injury, there is already interest from some of Europe’s top sides.

Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a move for the former Barcelona youngster, whilst Liverpool also hold an interest in the playmaker according to Bernabeu Digital.

Los Blancos are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Bernabe, with scouts continuing to check on his development.

The aforementioned clubs will look to sign him in a bid to save money and avoid paying the extortionate fee that United splashed out for Sancho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is over the moon with his winger, despite a slow start.

The summer signing has come under criticism so far in his spell, but Solskjaer has faith in the England international.

“For me, he fits us like a glove, because he is creative, fearless, he has got quality, is hard working, is humble and he has got all of the attributes to be a success at Man United,” Solskjaer said on Sky.

“He’s very young and sometimes you think ‘wow, all the experience he has on his young shoulders’.

“He will also get better.”
