Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has drawn up a transfer shortlist ahead of the summer window that includes Aston Villa star and reported Manchester United target Jack Grealish, according to former Reds striker Stan Collymore. The Merseyside club are currently in the midst of a crisis on the pitch, with their extensive injury problems seemingly putting an end to the club’s ability to win football matches as of late.

Liverpool currently occupy seventh place in the Premier League table, four points adrift of Champions League qualification after a dismal run of six consecutive defeats on home soil.

Klopp and owners Fenway Sports Group are reported to be considering a summer overhaul in order to mount a renewed title challenge next season.

A selection of players from across Europe have been linked with the Reds in recent months, including the likes of PSG talisman Kylian Mbappe, Bayern Munich-bound Dayot Upamecano and Austrian defender David Alaba.

However, it seems as though the Reds could be taking a leaf out of United’s book with regards to their summer recruitment strategy.

Collymore has claimed that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on no less than four players ahead of next season, with Grealish’s name near the top of the list.

“LFC’s front three have won the lot and may fancy Madrid, Bayern Munich or Juventus for a new challenge,” Collymore told Birmingham Live.

“So don’t discount an overhaul being at least being whispered at LFC.

“[Erling] Haaland, Grealish, [Ansu] Fati, [Myron] Boadu – a couple of Dutch coaches I know love this kid – all on a list.”

Grealish has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players since Villa’s promotion in 2019, with his regular contributions in front of goal helping to keep the club up last season before setting their sights on a top-half finish this time around.

Haaland, who has also been linked with United, Chelsea and Real Madrid, is perhaps the most expensive name on the list with Dortmund unlikely to accept anything less than a nine-figure bid in order to part ways with their star man.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Fati has been hailed as the heir to Lionel Messi at Barcelona, whereas Dutch youngster Boadu has already earned his first international cap for the Oranje.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to land their preferred transfer targets during the summer window, with the financial effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continuing to wreak havoc across the world of elite sport.

Klopp suggested last month that he was not planning a large-scale overhaul at the end of the season, but may well have changed his outlook in recent weeks given his side’s continued struggles.

“I don’t think it is time for a massive rebuild like how I understand it: six seven out, running contracts but trying to get rid of them and bring in all the new faces,” Klopp told reporters.

“The squad of this year didn’t have the chance to play together one time really.

“I think it would make sense to have a look at that, but on top of that of course little readjustments will happen – reacting on the situation but planning at the same time for the future and all these kinds of things.

“I am not sure we can do that in the summer but that is what we will try.”
