Leeds United winger Raphinha banished any lingering doubts around his future by stating he was “very happy” at Elland Road. The tricky Brazilian has been a revelation since his £17m move from Rennes last season.

Despite Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s slow start to the season, the 24-year-old’s performances continue to garner plenty of admiration in the Premier League and the rest of the footballing world.

He has scored five goals in his first ten appearances in the Premier League this season, despite the fact Bielsa’s side are only three points away from the relegation zone.

Raphinha is only one goal away from equalling the total haul from his debut season, such is the quality and improvement in his game this campaign.

Nevertheless, the winger reaffirmed his happiness and commitment to the club, even suggesting his ambition is to play Champions League football at Elland Road.

“Of course. I am very happy at Leeds,” Raphina said in an interview with AS before Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against fierce rivals Argentina. Hopefully we can play in the Champions League.”

Raphinha’s impressive performances have seen him called up into Brazil’s recent national squads.

He has so far accumulated four caps for Tite’s vibrant Brazilian side, but he has managed to make his mark on the national side.

The Leeds star contributed two assists on his international debut against Venezuela, and then followed it up with an impressive brace against Uruguay in his third appearance for the five-time World Cup winners.

And as is often the case when a player excels in both their club and their international sides, speculation linking him with a move away from Elland Road began to emanate.

Former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Deco, who now represents Raphinha, even confirmed Liverpool had even made some approaches for the winger.

“Raphinha became an important player in the Premier League, the club knows he has grown and things will happen naturally,” Deco said to Globo Esporte.

“There are certainly several clubs that like him, and Liverpool do like him. There were approaches, but nothing official. Leeds wanted to keep him for another season.”

Any possible Anfield move does not seem likely, amid Raphinha’s recent comments during the international break.

He has played a huge part in Brazil’s impressive World Cup qualifying campaign, and victory against fierce rivals Argentina will see them amass a nine-point lead at the top of the South American World Cup qualifying table.

But despite the fact he will have his game face on ahead of the contest, he reserved a substantial amount of praise for current Leeds boss and Argentine Bielsa.

“From my first days at the club, I already saw how special Bielsa was,” Raphinha added. “He is a guy who works a lot, who knows a lot about football.

“He is the typical professional who dedicates 100% of his time to the institution he represents and we are very lucky that he is our coach. He knows how to get the most out of each one of us. This makes us raise our level.”
