Jurgen Klopp was annoyed that his side had to play at lunchtime on Saturday against Brighton, and that was before they dropped two points in stoppage time and he lost yet another player to injury.
Liverpool host Ajax in an important Champions League clash tomorrow night, and have a further seven fixtures to fulfil before the end of 2020.
With eight players out – many of them centre-backs or midfielders – the Reds are undoubtedly engulfed in an injury crisis.
But help may soon be at hand in the form of the January transfer window. It seems likely the club will target a central defender, but let’s see what the latest Liverpool transfer gossip has to say about it.
Real Madrid defender to solve injury crisis?
Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, but having built their success upon shrewd, long-term planning, a loan move might be more appropriate than splashing out on the first capable centre-back who happens to come along.
With that in mind, there could be something in the latest reports from Don Balon who have claimed that Real Madrid ’s Eder Militao might be on his way to Merseyside on a temporary basis.
The 22-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2019 but has yet to establish himself in Zinedine Zidane’s team. The Brazilian has made just one start apiece in La Liga and the Champions League in 2020/21.
And who knows, if Liverpool like what they see from him then a permanent transfer might be in the pipeline next summer?
Origi to move on in January?
Divock Origi’s name will live long in the history of Liverpool Football Club after what the Belgian helped them to achieve in the Champions League in 2018/19.
But his time at Anfield is surely drawing to a close. The 25-year-old has not impressed when given rare opportunities to start this season, and Diogo Jota has barged past him in the queue for regular game time up front.
Leeds United have been linked with signing Origi in the past, and they have been tipped to make a move for him by former Premier League Golden Boot winner Kevin Phillips.
Speaking to Football Insider , the former Sunderland man said: “A fresh challenge for him would be best and I am sure there will be a queue of clubs looking to sign him if he is made available.”
“I would not be surprised if he moves on in January and Leeds is definitely a potential destination,” he added.
Schuurs plays down transfer talk
There have been conflicting reports regarding the possibility of Ajax’s Perr Schuurs moving to Liverpool in January. While some stories claim the Reds have started negotiations, others have dismissed that idea.
Whatever the truth of the situation, it seems the player himself is not looking to move at this point in his fledgling career, as Tribal Football have reported .
Speaking after his side’s 5-0 win on Saturday, Schurrs was asked by Voetbalzone about Liverpool’s interest.
"I'd like to play for a few more years at Ajax,” he said. “I am very confident in myself with my development; first a year at Jong Ajax, then a year more at Ajax 1 and now hopefully a whole season.”
It might be time for Liverpool to leave this transfer be for now and focus their search elsewhere.
