Lyon have softened their stance on letting Houssem Aouar leave this summer in a major boost to Arsenal’s hopes of landing the midfielder. The French side had initially placed a £54million price tag on their star’s head.
That valuation has since dropped to £45m – which the Gunners are still finding difficult to meet.
Mikel Arteta is trying to offload players to raise funds. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is one of those sacrificed as he joined Aston Villa for £20m.
The north Londoners are in a rush to find the other £25m before Monday’s transfer deadline.

However, they may not need to panic as Lyon’s stance on the situation has now changed.
According to L’Equipe, Rudi Garcia’s side are willing to let Aouar leave on loan so long as there is a mandatory purchase clause inserted into the deal.
That would be perfect news for Arsenal as they will have more time to raise funds.
L’Equipe adds that the news that Aouar could leave on loan has reached Real Madrid and they have now entered the race.

Zinedine Zidane’s side do not have the funds to buy any reinforcements in this window.
Los Blancos are only shopping in the loan window and have spotted an opportunity to capture Aouar.
The La Liga side are not Arsenal’s only rivals though, as Paris Saint-Germain have also begun negotiations with Lyon.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and the club’s former striker Kevin Campbell is glad Arteta is looking at the right calibre of player.

He told Gentingbet: “Central midfield is the key area for Arsenal and there’s talk of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, from Lyon, and I think they’re the two key positions.
“Thomas Partey is a defensive type midfielder, but he’s got so much to his game, he can go box to box and, really, he can do it all.
“Aouar is a creative player who can play numerous positions across midfield and even across the front.
“So, I think those are the two players who have been heavily linked to the club and are in talks of coming in. I think Arteta and Edu will get it done, in the end.
“I’m not sure how quick it will be and it might be right up to the deadline date, but I think Arsenal will get it done.”
