Lyon seem to have planned for the departure of Houssem Aouar amid his links to Arsenal.
The 22-year-old Frenchman has proved to be a valuable asset for the Ligue 1 outfit both domestically and in the Champions League, but they could agree to cash-in this summer.
The Gunners are hoping to add some creativity to their midfield with Mesut Ozil still frozen out by Mikel Arteta, and the latest update suggests that his parent club have signed a replacement.
That would give Arsenal one week to get the deal over the line before the October 5 deadline, and he could be part of their playing squad after the upcoming international break.
Lyon have made an offer for AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta and a deal is reportedly done after he arrived at the club on Monday – which is reportedly worth just over £15m.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said of an initial rejected bid for Aouar: "There was a timid offer.
"We felt like either they didn’t consider the fact that this is a player in the French national team. So it was not an offer that was even susceptible to making us consider a sale."
When asked about his transfer plans after the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sky Sports, Arteta said: "Well we are trying to improve the team.
"There's a week to go, there's a lot of things happening in and out.
"We don't have any news on new players and either with players that might leave the football club.
"It's a week to go, I think it's going to be really busy for other clubs because not much business has been done. Let's see what happens."

Arsenal legend Ian Wright then told Premier League Productions: “It felt like a training game for Liverpool in respect of Arsenal were saying you can try and get out but we will press you.
“You can see that in Liverpool’s team everyone can move forward because Arsenal were starting so deep but what was evident to me was that we didn’t have that person in midfield who was comfortable enough on the ball until Dani Ceballos came on.
“[They needed] Someone who they can pass the ball to, who is comfortable to receive it with someone on his back, who can pop it off, who can turn it round the corner.
“From there Arsenal can play but we can’t do that at the moment. That’s why it’s imperative we get Aouar from Lyon.”
