Manchester United fans praised sacked ‘club legend’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his work during his three years as manager but admitted he was ‘not good enough’ for the Old Trafford role.

The Norwegian was sacked as Red Devils boss on Sunday morning following a humiliating 4-1 away loss to Watford – which was United’s fourth defeat in five league matches.

Large sections of United supporters have been calling for Solskjaer’s head for several weeks and while they appreciated the work the Norwegian did after taking the role in late 2018, the fans deemed him not good enough to take the club forward.

Manchester United reiterated the fans’ message about Solskjaer being a club legend at Old Trafford and said the Norwegian will ‘always be welcomed back as part of the United family.’

Sunday’s club statement read: ‘Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.

‘Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments.
