Manchester United transfer target Harry Kane is worth £200million “all day long” – but the Red Devils may end up signing the Tottenham man for a cheaper price, reckons former West Ham striker Tony Cottee. Kane has refused to rule out leaving Tottenham, suggesting he would quit the club if they were not showing progression in terms of competing for trophies.
Reports say Tottenham would want a fee of £200m for their talisman, which would match the record all-time transfer fee Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar three years ago.
Cottee says a goalscorer such as Kane is worth that much in the current market but says the coronavirus outbreak could lower prices of players and “correct” the market.
And the pundit reckons Kane would help bring the glory days back to United if he joined.
“I don’t think any footballer’s worth that sort of money but that’s the market place we’re in,” Cottee told Sky Sports.

“It will be interesting to see if there is a correction, certainly in terms of what’s going on at the moment, whether there’s a correction with transfer fees, that might well happen.
“But we saw [Kylian] Mbappe I think it was and Neymar go for huge amounts of money and is Harry Kane worth that? Yes he is, he’s a goalscorer, every club wants a goalscorer.
“He’s been linked heavily with Manchester United, another fantastic football club, and if Harry was to go there you would expect him to score the goals that would take Manchester United to the next level.
“For them, that is to try and regain that Premier League crown and try to be more dominant back in Europe again.

“So I think Harry could do that for them. In the current market, if others players are worth what has been paid for them, then yeah Harry Kane’s worth £200m all day long.”
Kane is yet to win silverware in his career and Cottee can see him forcing an exit in 12 months’ time if Spurs are no closer in their hunt for trophies.
He added: “I think the decision will be down to Harry Kane, I think there will come a time where he says ‘I’ve done as much as I can, I’ve scored lots of goals for Spurs but for many, many reasons it’s not happened’.

“Everything’s in place, they’ve got a great stadium, great club, great fans but they haven’t won anything and I think that’s what Harry will want to taste before he finishes his career.
“You want that feeling of winning a Premier League or winning a Champions League and at the moment I can’t see him doing that at Spurs.
“So I think it’s inevitable, if it doesn’t happen in the next year or so, I think Harry will probably leave next summer.”
