Man Utd backed to make ‘creative’ signing instead of Ivan Perisic or Douglas Costa

Manchester United must be more “creative” in the transfer market than signing the likes of Ivan Perisic, Douglas Costa or Gareth Bale, according to European football expert Julien Laurens. The experienced trio of wingers are alternatives United are looking at instead of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. Bale, though, looks set to join former club Tottenham on  a season-long loan.

Perisic, 31, and Costa, 30, have both been targeted by United in the past but deals have never come to fruition.

Laurens was asked on the Gab & Juls podcast whether either of the three players would be good signings for the Red Devils.

But he insisted United should use their recruitment team to look for less well-known and less-experienced alternatives.

Laurens said: “No one, leave me alone. Be creative United please, be creative.

“Don’t go and get the veteran that is passed from one club to another club, from Bayern Munich or Juventus. ‘Douglas Costa, do you want to go to United?’. Please, please, please.

“Yeah okay [Perisic played okay last season], maybe he would be the only one.

“But please, why don’t you just look at your stats, the network your scouts have built, your scout reports, have a look at what’s been done in other countries, in other clubs?

“But please come up with someone else than those three.”

Meanwhile, transfer expert Duncan Castles claims Paris Saint-Germain winger Kylian Mbappe has United as one of four clubs he would be open to joining next summer.

Premier League champions Liverpool, as well as La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona make up the quartet.

“I’m told he has a couple of clubs in each country that he’s particularly interested in moving to,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.

“[One] club he’s interested in is Manchester United, which I’m sure would be a great appeal for The Glazers and Ed Woodward, to go after a player of his quality.

“It’ll be interesting to see if Mbappe’s interest is such that he’d be willing to go to a team where at present they’re well down the European pecking order.

“We’ll see what happens in the coming season with their cultural reboot, where that gets them and if they’re attractive enough for a player of Mbappe’s quality.”
