Man Utd ‘consider AC Milan star’ as Paul Pogba replacement amid contract stall

Manchester United could look to sign AC Milan's Frank Kessie as it appears more likely that they will have to replace Paul Pogba.

United are in need of a powerful midfielder, and the ongoing uncertainty over Pogba's future has further accelerated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's preparations.

Pogba's deal at Old Trafford will expire at the end of the season, meaning the Frenchman will be able to speak to other clubs as soon as January to finalise his next destination.

Amid Pogba's stance, reports in Italy have said that United are monitoring Kessie closely as a potential top transfer target next summer.

According to Italian daily publication Calcio Mercato, United are now seriously interested in signing the 24-year-old, but face competition from fellow Premier League side Tottenham and French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

United reportedly only wish to pursue a deal if Pogba doesn't sign a new deal, and remain hopeful that the World Cup winner will commit his future to the club in the next few weeks, but Kessie tops their list of potential replacements.

Pogba has often been the subject of heavy criticism for his inconsistencies within the United team, but has so far enjoyed an extremely successful season, topping the Premier League assist charts heading into October.

United are hopeful that his form, matched with the intentions of the club, will convince him to stay, but the lure of PSG may be too much, and during the summer transfer window it was reported that the French side were reportedly willing to offer Pogba £510,000-a-week to join them for free next summer.

Pogba is yet to find his best position at United, and often flutters between a deeper central role and a wide left position, but could be influential in PSG's side and bolster their already star-studded squad.
