Man Utd fans make their feelings clear after Bailly extends Old Trafford stay

Manchester United supporters have been reacting to the news that Eric Bailly has signed a new, long-term contract with the club.

The 27-year-old’s future was uncertain going into a summer where a new defensive signing could be on the horizon.

However, Bailly has now put pen-to-paper on a deal that will see him remain at Old Trafford until at least 2024.

The Ivorian has endured a frustrating campagin, with injuries limiting him to just 15 appearances.

After signing the new deal, Bailly described playing for the Red Devils as a ‘dream’, with his thoughts now on ending this season strongly, before targeting a Premier League crown in 2021/22.

“I hope I can be ready and I don’t get any injuries and to be strong and finish the season well. I hope to win the Europa League this season,” Bailly said.

“We will have more challenges next season – hopefully the Champions League – and, for me, my dream is to win the Premier League, that’s my big dream.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been extensively linked with a centre back to partner Harry Maguire, but has claimed that Bailly will be a significant part of the squad moving forward.

“I am pleased that Eric has signed this new contract. He is still learning and improving all of the time under the coaches here,” he told the club’s official site.

“Eric has improved his robustness since my time as manager and he will continue to play a significant part in the squad.

“He possesses fantastic speed, timing of tackle and has that aggression which, of course, you need as a centre-back. He is a popular member of the squad and we look forward to continuing to work with him going forward.”

When fit, there is a feeling that Bailly is the best central defender at the club, but fans still want a new signing to come in, to help them overcome Premier League rivals.

A third replied to the news by saying: “As much as i love him, he is so unreliable. We need a CB desperately and if this is instead of one then the club is clearly not wanting to achieve.”

And a fourth United supported concluded: “How’s it a good decision exactly? Just shows we’re not getting a new centre back in the summer and rewarding Someone who’s been injured most of his MUFC career.”
