Manchester United have held talks with Watford over signing Ismaila Sarr but only want the winger on loan, according to Sky Sports reporter James Cooper. United are still in the market for a right-winger amid their long-term interest in Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. The Red Devils are looking at alternatives to Sancho with a deal for the England man looking increasingly unlikely ahead of Monday’s deadline.
Watford star Sarr has emerged as a potential option for the Old Trafford club.
However, Cooper claims United are not looking at the 22-year-old as a long-term option.
United instead would rather bring Sarr in on loan and then pursue Sancho again next summer.
“Ismaila Sarr is someone that Manchester United have talked to Watford about, there have been discussions,” Cooper said on the Transfer Show.

“But again, they’re not looking at a player like that as a permanent fixture, as someone they’re going to bring in and make a Manchester United long-term prospect.
“They want a loan signing, they don’t want someone permanently.

“So I think, although that could go onto the other deadline in terms of the Championship, it would be a worst-case scenario rather than a best-case scenario, which is Jadon Sancho.”
Sarr scored five goals in 29 Premier League appearances in his first campaign at Watford, including two against Liverpool to end their unbeaten run.

Watford value the star at £50m, £20m more than they paid Rennes for his signature in the summer of 2019.
United have until October 16 to sign Sarr due to Watford being in the Championship.
United have signed just one player so far this summer in Donny van de Beek.
But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not concerned about the lack of business ahead of Monday’s deadline.
“I can’t give you any news now,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“We’re working with the players we’ve got, we’ve got a big squad – we’ve changed 10 players there from Saturday.
“If there’s any updates, we’ll give you them.
“I can’t concern myself about other clubs. I’ve got to concern myself on what we’re doing of course.
“I know the club is working well, we’ve been working well, they’re working hard to have as strong a squad as possible and sometimes the speculation is there and we can’t control that.”
