Man Utd ‘have lots going on behind the scenes’ ahead of Tottenham Premier League clash

Manchester United are working hard on transfers behind the scenes ahead of their match with Tottenham, it has been claimed. The Red Devils go up against old boss Jose Mourinho looking for a fourth win on the trot having beaten Luton Town and Brighton Albion (both in the Premier League and Carabao Cup). But it’s impossible to escape transfer speculation with links to Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele refusing to die down.

Manchester United go into the match against Tottenham aiming to beat Jose Mourinho again.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side won the same fixture 2-1 last season, with two goals from Marcus Rashford coming either side of a fine strike from Dele Alli.

In the background of the contest, however, is the transfer window. And with United having less than 48 hours to improve their squad, they’re working hard on potential deals.

Cavani looks likely to arrive at Old Trafford, with the Uruguay international a free agent having left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season.

Jadon Sancho remains on the Red Devils’ radar, despite Borussia Dortmund repeatedly insisting their prized asset won’t be going anywhere.

And United are also tracking Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, who could arrive at the Theatre of Dreams should Sancho stay in the Bundesliga.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the summer window so far

All of the speculation isn’t ideal for Solskjaer’s side but BBC Sport journalist Howard Nurse has claimed there’s ‘lots going on behind the scenes’.

“Lots going on behind the scenes while both women’s and men’s team are playing today #mufc,” he tweeted.

As well as incomings, United are working on departures.

Chris Smalling is wanted by Roma, with the England international sparkling during a loan spell in the Italian last season. Inter Milan have also been linked.

United would like to find a buyer for Marcos Rojo, while they’re also happy to listen to offers for Phil Jones should a suitable bid be made.

And goalkeeper Sergio Romero and right-back Diogo Dalot may also leave Old Trafford, with the pair being tipped to join Everton and AC Milan respectively in recent times.

Meanwhile, United legend Ryan Giggs has opened up on the potential signing of Cavani and expressed a belief he can shine at the club.

The Red Devils have seen South American players like Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Radamel Falcao all toil after blockbuster arrivals.

But Giggs thinks Cavani can be different, saying: “It goes without saying he’s a world star.

“My second game as Wales manager was against Uruguay. Cavani scored and I was really impressed with his work-rate and quality.

“It’s all about how quickly he beds in.

“We’ve seen South Americans who haven’t really come and done it like Falcao, Di Maria and Sanchez, but Cavani, with his work-rate, you expect him to make it.

“I think United needed a centre-forward, needed that target man to score the goals and make that difference. Hopefully he can do that.

“I think Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. He’s got the experience to handle that.

“But eyes will be on him straight away and if he does come he’ll have to hit the ground running because the pressure will be on.”
