Manchester United hero Ryan Giggs has opened up on Edinson Cavani. The Uruguay international is close to moving to Old Trafford on a free transfer, having left Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the summer. And Giggs thinks he won’t be a flop like Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.
Manchester United have only signed Donny van de Beek so far this transfer window, with the Netherlands international arriving from Ajax.
But they’re now close to landing Cavani, with the striker moving on a free transfer.
United have had problems with South Americans in the past, with the likes of Falcao, Sanchez and Di Maria all flopping at Old Trafford.
But Giggs thinks Cavani will be different and expressed a belief that the Red Devils are making the right decision by recruiting the 33-year-old.
Giggs said: “It goes without saying he’s a world star.
“My second game as Wales manager was against Uruguay. Cavani scored and I was really impressed with his work-rate and quality.

“It’s all about how quickly he beds in. We’ve seen South Americans who haven’t really come and done it like Falcao, Di Maria and Sanchez, but Cavani, with his work-rate, you expect him to make it.
“I think United needed a centre-forward, needed that target man to score the goals and make that difference. Hopefully he can do that.
“I think Cavani will have no problem with the size of the club. He’s got the experience to handle that.
“But eyes will be on him straight away and if he does come he’ll have to hit the ground running because the pressure will be on.”
While Giggs and others are enthusiastic about Cavani moving to England, United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge has gone viral with his rant about the Uruguay international.
“Oh my life,” he said on the United Stand YouTube channel.

“It gets worse. ‘Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’. He’s been a great opportunity for eight f***ing months. He’s been a free agent for eight months.
“You are full of s***. Who is running this football club? Seriously! This is not about Cavani, I hope he works really well, but who is putting this spinny b******* out there?
“Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’ in inverted commas from Fabrizio Romano. That’s from the club! ‘Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity’. Oh my life.
“And they’re going to pay €10 million in agent fees. We don’t bloody learn, people. This is a bloody joke. We are being torn apart. This football club is being torn apart by d********.
“Unbelievable. It’s the money we waste on these sort of things. Who do they think you are? They must think you’re a bloody idiot.

“Man Utd see Cavani as a great opportunity 48 hours before a end a transfer window when they’ve messed it up. He’s been available for eight months. Nobody else bloody wants him. It’s a great opportunity!?
“It’s like going to a bloody buffet or a christening or whatever or a party and you’re late to the table and you go through the plates and there’s nothing there apart from a mouldy, broken Pringle that nobody wants.
“United put it on their plate and go: ‘Look at this, it’s fine dining. What a great opportunity’. It’s not a great opportunity, nobody else wants him and neither did you! You could have got him eight months ago.
“You could have got him eight weeks ago. You could have got him eight days ago. You’re getting him now because you’re desperate. Stop trying to bloody spin it as the deal of the century.
“You’re going to pay his agent €10 million. What the bloody hell are you doing!? He’s free! It’s the business side of the deal that really winds me up! We are so bad, we are so bad.”
