Manchester United have been locked in talks for the transfer of Ivan Perisic for weeks.
However, Paris St-Germain are also sniffing around the move for the Inter Milan winger.
The Red Devils have made Jadon Sancho a top transfer target this summer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the England international a priority.
But negotiations with Borussia Dortmund look like they have failed after they slapped a £109m asking price on the 20-year-old.
With time running out in the transfer window, United are scrambling for alternatives.
One player that has been strongly linked is Perisic, who was coveted by Jose Mourinho during his time in charge of the club.
The Croatia international is coming off the back of one of his best seasons, having helped Bayern Munich win the Champions League after joining them on loan.
United see him as a short-term option that can provide creativity and goals from a wide position.
According to German publication, Fussball Transfers, the Red Devils have been locked in talks with him for weeks now.
Furthermore, they report that a deal could be concluded before the transfer window shuts next month.
However, PSG are also interested in the Inter Milan star and could launch a late bid to land the 31-year-old.
Fussball Transfers reports that Parc des Princes supremo Leonardo has personally asked Inter over a loan deal for the season.
PSG have been relatively quiet this transfer window, signing Mauro Icardi and Sergio Rico on permanent deals after loan spells and also bringing in Alessandro Florenzi on a temporary basis.
But Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in a wide player to compete with the likes of Neymar and Angel di Maria.
Fussball Transfers goes on to state that United are winning the race for Perisic, though.
The ex-Wolfsburg winger has asked to leave Inter this summer and has previously stated he was honoured to be linked with the Red Devils.
Back in 2017, he said: "In football, you never say never.
"From the beginning of my career, I've had the ambition to play in as many big leagues as possible, and I still have that desire to test myself in other leagues.
