Man Utd plot new position for Wan-Bissaka which opens door for transfers

Manchester United are plotting a new position for Aaron Wan-Bissaka which could open the door to potential transfers.

The right-back by trade has had no competition in his role this season, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to amend.

But a centre-back is also on his wish list as he looks to revamp the squad this summer.

Several have been linked, including Real Madrid star Raphael Varane and Villarreal's Pau Torres.

However, not all transfers are as simple as that and neither club are interested in letting their main men at the back go so easily – which has led Solskjaer to making a contingency plan.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils coach wants to try Wan-Bissaka out at centre-back over pre-season.

With the defender not called up to international duty, Solskjaer has all summer with the former Crystal Palace star.

And one potential idea is to bring him in as an auxiliary centre-half to cover Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Wan-Bissaka has exceptional tackling skill and is a fine defender but playing full-back and centre-back are two very different roles.

However, it would strengthen the notion that Solskjaer is looking to sign a right-back in the summer.

Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier is the top target and is already looking for places to live in Manchester, according to reports.

The England international has just helped Diego Simeone's men win La Liga for the first time since 2014.

And he did so by becoming a pivotal force in the squad, even earning a spot in the Liga Team of the Season.

With the former Tottenham man entering the final year of his contract, he could be available for as little as £10m.

Playing Wan-Bissaka at centre-back, if done successfully, will also free up funds for other positions of the squad that need bolstering.

It could come in handy during their negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over the sale of Jadon Sancho.

United are desperate to sign the England international but have ran into trouble over how a payment will be made.
