Man Utd to submit opening bid for £27m star who wants Old Trafford transfer but face issue

Manchester United are understood to be ready to launch their first official bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon. However, they may face an issue due to the La Liga side’s asking price of £27m for the want away star who is keen on a move to Old Trafford.

United have been chasing Reguilon for most of the summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to look to improve his squad.

The Spain international impressed on loan at Sevilla last summer, helping them win the Europa League.

But he has been frozen out by Zinedine Zidane on his return to Real Madrid, with the French coach preferring to stick with Marcelo and Ferland Mendy at left-back.

United are keen to snap him up to compete with Luke Shaw in that position.

“Real Madrid also asking for a ‘buy back clause’. Personal terms not an issue – Reguilon wants to join #MUFC. Opening bid to be submitted soon. Sevilla: out of the race.”

Signing Reguilon would likely mean Brandon Williams would switch over to right-back to provide back up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

That would pave a way out of the club for Diogo Dalot, who has never managed to nail down a place in the first team, and is reportedly unhappy at the club.

Duncan Castles told the Transfer Window podcast: ”They do have to move players out and it’s interesting to see what’s happening with two guys who’ve dropped well down the pecking order in that very heavily-staffed defensive section of the Manchester United squad.

“One of them, Diogo Dalot, the young Portuguese under-21 international, who has essentially been relegated to third-choice right-back in the planning Solskjaer is making for the coming season.

“Wan-Bissaka obviously has that position nailed down.

“I can tell you that Dalot’s not happy with his situation at United and is keen to leave, however he doesn’t have permission from the club to leave.

“You would think a loan deal would be a viable solution here, a loan with an option to buy in a year’s time, allow a player who was extremely highly-rated when he came to the club, picked out of Porto with a limited amount of experience because of the quality of his performances at Porto, [to leave].”
