Man Utd transfer round-up: Sancho deal doubtful as Red Devils chase two targets

Manchester United fans have been reacting to a tricky Champions League draw, with Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir awaiting them in the group stage.

However, there is still plenty of interest in whether United will begin their European campaign with some big new additions to their squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has just three days to strengthen his squad with arrivals from the continent, and the Jadon Sancho saga remains at the forefront of people’s minds as we enter the home straight of the transfer window.

Here’s the latest on that move, as well as a couple of other transfer updates as United aim to strengthen before Monday’s deadline.

Dortmund sporting director makes Sancho position clear

Manchester United continue to work against the clock in an effort to complete a move for Sancho before the transfer deadline, but Borussia Dortmund’s position has not changed, at least publicly.

With United having failed to meet an August deadline imposed by the Bundesliga club, Dortmund have reintegrated the Englishman into their first-team setup and have no plans to sell the player before Monday.

"Of course we communicated with Manchester United in the past," Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said in a press conference ahead of the team’s league meeting with Freiburg, as reported by the Independent.

"But everything there is to tell on this matter from our end has already been said. And that won't change over the next three days."

Sancho has already played three times for his club this season, twice in the Bundesliga and once in the cup, after reaching double figures for goals and assists last season.

Sevilla man linked with €40m United switch

In eliminating Manchester United from last season’s Europa League, Sevilla demonstrated they had plenty of players capable of improving Premier League sides.

One of those men, Sergio Reguilon, is now at Tottenham after reportedly coming close to a United move, and now one of the Spaniard’s former team-mates is being mentioned in connection with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

According to ESPN, United’s representatives have “made extensive checks” as they consider the possibility of bringing Sevilla forward Lucas Ocampos to Old Trafford.

The Argentine forward only joined the Spanish club from Marseille in 2019, and is expected to cost somewhere in the region of €40million (£36.2m) if United opt to make a move.

Ocampos scored 17 goals in all competitions last season, including the winner against Wolves in the Europa League quarter-finals, and also scored Sevilla’s goal in their Super Cup defeat to Bayern Munich last month.

Barcelona play down United negotiations over Dembele

Ousmane Dembele is believed to be one of the players under consideration by Manchester United if they fail to complete a deal for Jadon Sancho, but a deal for the Frenchman is not as close as previously reported.

That’s according to Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes, who has reiterated the French forward’s importance to the club.

“First of all, no negotiations with Manchester United at the moment… completely deny that." Planes said, as relaid by the MEN.

"He's a player we count on, we know his potential. We hope this year the team sees the best of him."

Dembele has had a tough time with injuries since moving to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, playing just 52 games in La Liga.

He made his first appearance of the season over the weekend in a 4-0 win over Villarreal, but was left on the bench as Ronald Koeman’s side beat Celta Vigo on Thursday night.
