Manchester United could find their potential Paul Pogba replacement in Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti, who former Red Devil Ashley Young believes would improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
The Premier League side completed a remarkable big-spending summer transfer window in an attempt to topple rivals Manchester City at the top of the division.
United spent over £120million during the off-season. The blockbuster £73million arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and the incredible return of Cristiano Ronaldo have improved Solskjaer’s attacking options.
Ronaldo already has five goals in his first five appearances since completing his deadline day transfer from Juventus.
The bargain £35m acquisition of Raphael Varane finally handed the Norwegian his dream partner for Harry Maguire, while Tom Heaton has returned to provide competition for David De Gea and Dean Henderson.
However, there was some criticism from fans and pundits that the Old Trafford transfer hierarchy did not sign a new midfielder.

United lack a top-level holding midfielder and could face further issues in the middle of the park if Paul Pogba does not sign a new contract.
The Frenchman’s current terms expire next summer and he is yet to pen a fresh deal.
Former United man Young, who now plays for Aston Villa having left Old Trafford for Inter Milan in 2019, believes the club has never truly replaced his old team-mate Carrick.
Young has said that Verratti would be the ideal successor to the now-first team coach.

The 28-year-old was part of the Italy side which defeated England at Euro 2020 and Young thinks he would complete Solskjaer’s team.
“I think (United) are missing a trick in the centre of midfield. I think Paul [Pogba] needs to play there,” Young told BBC 5 Live.
“At the weekend he was playing out towards the left, I don’t think that’s Paul’s best position.
“I think he wants to control play and he wants to dictate. He’s a player who can find passes, the way Carrick used to do.”
Young continued: “The Michael Carrick type has been missing for years. They haven’t gone out and replaced Michael Carrick.
“I was watching the PSG v [Man] City game yesterday and I think Marco Verratti is the closest one and nobody’s gone out to test the water to try to sign him.
“I think he would be an unbelievable signing for Manchester United.”
