Man Utd’s stance on Daniel James and Brandon Williams amid transfer interest

Daniel James and Brandon Williams are unlikely to leave Manchester United on Deadline Day despite interest from rivals.

The forward, who is in his second season with the Red Devils, has played just 71 minutes of football in the last eight games.

And it has seen speculation emerge that Leeds, who came close to signing the 23-year-old before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, enquire about him.

While Williams, who was pushed down the pecking order by Luke Shaw’s strong form and Alex Telles’ arrival, was given an opportunity by Southampton and Bayer Leverkusen.

But Daily Star understands that United will not be letting either of the players leave this month.

Solskjaer refused offers from both clubs interested in the 20-year-old full back while rumours emerged of a deal-in-principle with Newcastle.

The manager, though, has changed his mind after seeing Williams’ performances in the U23s this season.

He said earlier this month: “I’ve enjoyed seeing him, I’ve enjoyed him more in training. He’s played a couple of 23s games, so he’s been more involved.”

The same cannot be said, though, for other United players as Daily Star can also report that Teden Mengi is set for a move.

Sitting on the bench in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the U23s vice-captain will join club legend Wayne Rooney’s Derby until the end of the season.

While Marcos Rojo, who has not played for United since November 2019, is off to Boca Juniors.

The Premier League side have reportedly terminated his contract with six months left and the Argentine window remaining open until February 19.

It marks a return to South America for the 30-year-old after spending the second half of the 2019/20 campaign with Club Estudiantes de La Plata.

United have also seen James Garner and Facundo Pellistri depart this month while Odion Ighalo’s loan spell ended.

And the future of Sergio Romero remains up in the air with the goalkeeper out of favour at Old Trafford and seeing his contract end in the summer.
