Manchester United reportedly have transfer interest in Wolves star Pedro Neto. And the winger’s performances this season suggest he could be another Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. He’s certainly got the talent and a bright future now appears to be on the cards.

Manchester United want a right winger.

They’ve used Mason Greenwood and Daniel James there throughout the bulk of the campaign but know they need a specialist in that department.

United tried to sign Jadon Sancho back in the summer transfer window but have now moved on, with their preference being his team-mate Erling Haaland instead.

Yet they remain determined to invest in that area and, now, Neto is on their wishlist.

The Sun have claimed the 21-year-old, who was rejected by Jose Mourinho after visiting Carrington for a trial five years ago, is being eyed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the summer transfer window.

And the nature of his performances this term suggest Neto could follow in the footsteps of compatriots Ronaldo, Fernandes and Nani.

Wolves shelled out on Neto during the summer transfer window of 2019, with the Portugal international doing well enough throughout his first season at Molineux.

But this term he’s really kicked on, becoming a shining light amid a problematic campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Neto has scored five goals from 29 Premier League matches, two more than he managed throughout last season.

And his tally of two assists is also better when compared to a year ago, with Neto clocking up three last term.

Neto has stood out in victories over Crystal Palace and Southampton since the turn of the year, while causing Chelsea all sorts of problems in a 2-1 win over Chelsea back in December.

And his development suggests United would be onto a winner if they were to bring him to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

If Neto does arrive, he could even follow in the same footsteps as compatriots Ronaldo, Nani and Fernandes.

United signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon back in the summer of 2003 as David Beckham’s replacement, landing him after he blitzed them in a pre-season friendly.

And the Portugal international recovered from a shaky start to become a huge hit, propelling the club to three Premier League titles on the spin under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo also fired United to Champions League glory, a prize they’ve had to go without in the years since his move to Real Madrid in 2009.

Nani was also a good asset for the club.

Like Ronaldo, he arrived from Sporting. And after taking some time to adjust to English football, he became a vital figure during Ferguson’s final years in charge.

Nani was never able to live up to his billing as ‘the next Ronaldo’.

But the Portugal international was a good signing nonetheless, playing a key role as United won the league in 2011 and 2013 in particular.

Fernandes was another who signed from Sporting, touching down at Old Trafford in January last year.

And he’s been nothing short of sensational in the time since, lifting the club out of mediocrity and helping them dream of winning trophies under Solskjaer.

Neto to United could be on this summer.

And the Red Devils will certainly be hopeful he can justify his £50million fee should a deal take place.
