Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia is prepared to pay Kurt Zouma ‘compensation’ in order for him to complete a move to West Ham, according to reports. Zouma’s wage demands have proven to be a problem so far in West Ham’s attempts to sign the Frenchman. But Granovskaia is set to help out and in return push through a deal for Chelsea to sign Jules Kounde.

West Ham are widely reported to have agreed a fee of around £25.7million with Chelsea for Zouma.

However, the centre-back wants to become the highest-paid player at the London Stadium.

Chelsea will look to replace Zouma with Sevilla star Kounde once his exit is confirmed.

And it appears director Marina Granovskaia is doing all she can to get both deals done.

Speaking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry says Zouma will receive two instalments from Chelsea in the space of a year if West Ham cannot match his demands.

McGarry said: “Proving herself to be a very canny operator in the market, Marina Granovskaia has decided that, if Zouma needs to extend the money he is getting paid at West Ham, Chelsea can facilitate part of his demands by paying him some compensation on his current contract in forms of a pay-off.

“One instalment would come five days after he signs for West Ham United and then another one next summer at exactly the same date, in order to assure the smooth transition of Zouma’s move to West Ham, and of course in turn receiving the fee from West Ham.”

McGarry’s co-host Duncan Castles says everything is in place for Chelsea to sign Kounde.

Castles said: “Once that is done, I’m told that the deal is in place with Sevilla which should be an initial €55m (£47m) with bonuses on top.

“Taking the money they get from West Ham United and putting it into that transaction.”

Meanwhile, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has questioned whether Zouma deserves to demand the wages he wants.

“Listen, it might [upset the West Ham players],” Bent said on talkSPORT.

“I get it’s a premium, he’s coming from Chelsea so that’s why he’s trying to command them kind of figures.

“But at the same time I don’t think he’s earned the right in terms of performances on the pitch.

“You look at some of the superstars from last season – [Michail] Antonio, Thomas Soucek, Declan Rice, Craig Dawson, one to 11.

“If he comes in and says ‘I want to be the highest-paid player’, if I’m one of the other players in the dressing room, I’m kind of asking the question ‘well why?’.

“I know he’s coming from Chelsea but I wouldn’t say his performances over the last couple of seasons have seen him deserved to be the highest-paid player at West Ham.”
