Messi breaks yet another record while helping Argentina reach World Cup final

Lionel Messi has broken yet another record as he helped Argentina to reach the World Cup final.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner scored and assisted as he captained his side to a 3-0 victory over Croatia on Tuesday night to set up a clash with either France or Morocco at the weekend. By opening the scoring from the penalty spot, Messi took his tally at World Cups to 11 overall, setting a new record for Argentina.

He has overtaken the previous record of 10 World Cup goals which had been held by Gabriel Batistuta thanks to his goals at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 editions.

It is also likely to be his final attempt to win the tournament as he will be 39 before the end of the next edition in four years time.
