Mesut Ozil 'rejects chance to join Al-Nassr for £5m transfer fee'

Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr ‘make £5m bid for unwanted Arsenal man Mesut Ozil and prepare to offer him a two-year deal… but the German does NOT want to ply his trade in Asia’

  • Mesut Ozil was given the chance to sign a two-year deal at Al-Nassr say reports
  • Arsenal were happy to part with the £350,000-a-week player for just £5million
  • However, the 31-year-old German does not want to ply his trade in Asia
  • Ozil has been exiled by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta but is happy to stay

Mesut Ozil has been the subject of a £5million bid by Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassri though the German midfielder is not keen to move to Asia, according to reports.

The Arsenal midfielder has been frozen out by Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta this year and has not played for the north London club since March 7.

The 31-year-old has also been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man Europa League squad meaning his chances of representing the club before his £350,000-a-week contract runs out next summer are even slimmer.

And according to Tyc Sports, Ozil has been offered a way out by Al-Nassr but is not prepared to accept the two-year deal put forward by the Saudi club.

The German has repeatedly maintained he is happy in London even if he is left out of the team by Arteta, who he played alongside in the red half of north London between 2013 and 2016.

He told The Athletic in August: ‘Things have been difficult but I love Arsenal. I’ll decide when I go, not other people.’

‘I’ll give everything I have for this club. Situations like these will never break me, they only make me stronger.

Ozil does not want to play in Asia and has rejected the two-year contract offered by Al-Nassr

‘I showed in the past that I can come back into the team and I will show it again.’

Ozil’s last competitive game for the club came in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham over six months ago, where he assisted Alexandre Lacazette’s late winner to grant the club all three points.

However, the German has not reappeared since the Premier League went into lockdown in the same month, though has played for the club in mid-season friendlies against Brentford and Aston Villa.

Ozil hit the headlines after offering to cover the wages of sacked mascot Gunnersaurus

Ozil made the controversial move last week to cover the wages of Jerry Quy, the man inside the suit of club mascot Gunnersaurus – who was made redundant as Arsenal continued their staff-trimming after feeling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The midfielder arrived in north London as Arsenal’s record signing in September 2013 for a £42.5million deal.

Ozil played a key role as Arsenal won three FA Cup titles in four seasons between 2014 and 2017, though barely played in the Gunners’ cup triumph this year.
