Mourinho backs Kane to become Tottenham’s all-time top scorer after 200th goal

Jose Mourinho says it is "just a matter of time" before Harry Kane overtakes Jimmy Greaves to become Tottenham's all-time top goalscorer.

Kane was on target to score his 200th goal for Spurs as they beat Ludogorets 3-1 in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The 27-year-old, who also picked up an assist for Lucas Moura's first-half strike, has reached the landmark of a double ton in Tottenham colours in just 300 games.

Greaves' club record stands at 266 goals in 381 games and Mourinho has backed Kane, who has age on his side, to break it.

“The numbers make him a club legend," said the Spurs boss. "What he is achieving in the Premier League and all competitions is great for such a young guy.

“Tonight, 45 minutes one goal and one assist. Can he become the record scorer? Yes I believe he can. It’s just a matter of time.”

Kane has scored 12 goals in 13 appearances in all competitions this season, while his Premier League tally stands at 149 goals in 214 games.

He was substituted for Carlos Vinicius at half-time, before Claudiu Keseru pulled one back for the hosts only for Giovani Lo Celso to restore the two-goal cushion.

The result sent Spurs top of Europa League Group J and Mourinho believes it made up for the shock 1-0 defeat to Royal Antwerp last week.

The Spurs boss added: “We start the game with ambition that was different to Antwerp. We tried to kill the game in the first half.

“A strong half, a good performance. In Antwerp we gave the advantage to the opponent and we couldn’t react.”

Spurs travel to West Brom on Sunday before they face a challenging fixture run immediately after the international break which includes Premier League clashes with Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
