Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has serious reason to be worried about Ousmane Dembele transfer

Manchester United are reportedly pressing ahead with plans to try and sign Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona with a deal for Jadon Sancho looking unlikely, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may already have some concerns. Sancho has been United’s No 1 target all summer long but they’ve been reluctant to meet Borussia Dortmund’s asking price.

Despite missing the August 10 deadline set by Dortmund, United have maintained interest in the 20-year-old.

But with just a few days left of the transfer window, Dortmund have made it clear that Sancho will not be sold.

That’s forced the Red Devils to look at alternatives with Ed Woodward keen to bring at least one attacker in.

Watford’s Ismaila Sarr has been touted as a potential target.

Liverpool had held strong interest in signing the 22-year-old before opting to go for Diogo Jota.

The Hornets are said to value Sarr at close to £50million though and would want a large proportion of that fee paid up front.

As well as looking at Sarr, United have also been considering an approach for Dembele.

The Frenchman has endured a torrid time with injuries since joining Barcelona in 2017 as a replacement for Neymar.

He’s still regarded as one of the world’s best young talents and he would certainly provide that marquee signing usually associated with United in the transfer window.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to take a massive hit on the £135m they paid to sign Dembele three years ago.

However, Solskjaer may have some serious concerns about striking a deal for the 23-year-old.

The United boss has worked on building a harmonious atmosphere at Old Trafford and the player’s he’s so far signed have bought into his philosophy.

Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Bruno Fernandes have all matched the culture Solskjaer is trying to build at United with Donny van de Beek expected to fit that same model.

But Dembele may well prove to be more troublesome if his past record is anything to go by.

Just this week, Dembele failed to turn up to team training on time.

It’s not the first time his punctuation has been poor as he previously arrived at training late after oversleeping.

He was also once fined £90,000 for turning up two hours late for training.

Solskjaer will undoubtedly demand strict training regimes from his United players with club managers not tolerating tardiness.

And Dembele’s track record should certainly be cause for concern if United do end up signing the winger before Monday’s transfer deadline.
