Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is out to wipe the smile from Thomas Tuchel’s face after a dream start to his Chelsea reign. Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday to face a Blues side on a run of eight games unbeaten and looking transformed under the German.

But United’s manager warned his side are hellbent of stopping Chelsea’s bandwagon and increasing what is a six-point cushion over the improving Londoners in the top-four fight.

“Thomas has done really well as it’s never easy coming into a season half way through. But hopefully we can stop that run, that’s my job now,” said Solskjaer.

“We know he has come in and it’s changed a little bit at Chelsea and it’s going to be a great challenge for us.

“But we have improved even though we’re still nowhere near where we want to be – higher up the table and winning trophies.”

United face a gruelling run from now to the international break at the end of next month with Chelsea kicking off away fixtures against Crystal Palace and Manchester City followed by the visit to Old Trafford of David Moyes’ in-form West Ham.

And Solskjaer admitted it will be run which will determine what sort of shape United enter the title run-in.

He continued: “We just have to focus and tick one game off at a time but the three games (away) are massive we’ve got Chelsea who are just behind us and we’ve got City who are in front of us.

“We can’t let them run further away if we have ambitions of catching them and we can’t give Chelsea too much hope to catch us either.

“Every game is important and now until the international break will be a big period of six or seven games we always say look at April and May to see how we are then.

“Let’s get to the international break and then we can focus on the run-in.”

Solskjaer will welcome back Edinson Cavani along with Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

But he is likely to keep faith with Anthony Martial to lead the line despite admitting the player needs to play himself out of a slump.

“Anthony is working really hard to do well for the team and that’s what’s pleasing me every day in training,” said the United manager.

“He’s not going to sit down and wait for things to happen he knows he will have to make it happen himself. We know that he’s got the quality and class.

Solskjaer added: “Everyone goes through a difficult patch at times and Anthony I think we saw he is working harder against Sociedad, and that’s the main thing.”
