Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent Paul Pogba advice by former Man Utd striker Michael Owen

Michael Owen has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he must find a place for Paul Pogba in the Manchester United starting line-up. The Frenchman was a substitute in United’s latest win over Everton, with speculation continuing to swirl about his future.

Pogba has been criticised for some below-par performances for the Red Devils in recent weeks, as Solskjaer continues to look for his best midfield combination.

The Norwegian has countless options at his disposal, with Scott McTominay, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek and Pogba all contending for a midfield berth.

There has been much discussion over whether Pogba and Fernandes can work together in the same midfield, particularly as Solskjaer looks to play two deeper-lying players.

But Owen, speaking to Metro Sport, believes that if he doesn’t find a place for Pogba in his XI, he should be looking for an Old Trafford exit.

“United have still to find their rhythm,” Owen said. “They must find a way to get their best players all on the pitch at the same time, which is obviously easier said than done.

“You can’t keep Pogba on the bench, and if he can’t secure a regular place in the side soon, he may have to consider his options.”

Despite his inconsistent club form, the 27-year-old put in two impressive performances for the national side, as France earned their spot in the UEFA Nations League Finals.

Dider Deschamps’ side beat Portugal and Sweden in the last week, with the United midfielder playing the full 90 minutes in both.

The France boss delivered a pointed message to Solskjaer and United, claiming his knowledge of Pogba allows him to get more out of the player.

“Just see what he was able to do in Portugal and what he did tonight,” said Deschamps.

“I know him, I know how he works. He has pride and above all he has talent. When you have to defend, he can defend. When he has the opportunity to express himself, he is able to do so.

“Paul is a top-level player and I hope what he did with us will be useful to him when he gets back to his club.”

Pogba has recently open up on what he called “the most difficult” section of his career so far, claiming that the opportunity to play for Les Bleus is offering him relief.

“I had never known such a difficult period in my career,” he said in a recent interview with RTL. “The France team is a breath of fresh air, the group is exceptional, it’s magic.”
