Paul Merson has slammed Arsenal’s style of play under Mikel Arteta, claiming they will be “eaten alive”, if they carry on in the same manner.
The Gunners had their 100 per cent start to the Premier League season ended by Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.
Despite taking the lead on Merseyside, Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners, with Jurgen Klopp picking up his first win against the Arsenal boss.
Since taking over from Unai Emery, the Spaniard has trusted his defenders and goalkeeper to be comfortable in possession, often playing from deep within their own penalty area.
And it has earned them plenty of notable results, including FA Cup wins over Man City and Chelsea, as well as the Community Shield victory vs Liverpool.
But Merson has warned Arteta, that unless they develop a new way of playing, the better teams will pick them apart.
He said: “There is some improvement and on the other hand they are playing against the best team in the country and if not the best team in Europe after Bayern Munich.
“When they go after, you just… it’s like going to Woburn Zoo next week and walking into the lions’ cage with a lorry load of steaks. You’re going to get eaten alive aren’t you?

“If you stay in your car you are going to be alright and that’s what it was.
“They are playing that way away to Liverpool, they are the best in the business. If they are going to keep playing that way there is only one result.”
Arsenal can bounce back from the defeat to the Reds las time out, when they face Sheffield United on Sunday, but Arteta knows his team will have to be at the best to beat Chris Wilder’s side.
On the Blades, he said: “We have experience of playing them both in the Premier League and the cup and we know how difficult it is to play against them.
“The season they had, the way they have evolved the team since they've joined the Premier League has been unbelievable, what their manager has done with the coaching staff, with the resources they have, I think it's remarkable.
“So we need to be really alert and have to play at our best again."
