Peter Drury’s spine-tingling commentary for Mo Salah goal gives fans goosebumps

Peter Drury has been hailed by Liverpool fans for his commentary of Mohamed Salah's winner against Manchester City.

Despite working primarily for American coverage of the Premier League, Drury is widely regarded as one of the best voices in English football. And his latest moment of gold came on Peacock for NBC Sports as Jurgen Klopp's Reds beat Pep Guardiola's City on Sunday (October 16).

As the crucial moment of the match unfolded, Drury said: "Alisson fires it forward… and Salah's on the twist, and Mo Salah's away, and Mo Salah scores! In front of an exploding Kop! This is Anfield!"

The spine-tingling commentary raised hairs on the back of plenty of necks, with one fan tweeting: "That gave me chills and I’ve watched the goal several times already."

Another wrote: "How do we make that goal *even* better? Add Peter Drury of course." A third commented: "Absolutely love Peter Drury!!!!"

"No better commentator in the game," claimed a fourth. And a fifth replied: "Peter Drury makes every goal sound so much better. Such a shame he’s not used more on UK coverages."

After starting out at the BBC, Drury spent 15 years working on ITV's football coverage, commentating on four World Cups and four European Championships.

Since 2012 he's worked mostly on international programming, however. Before being appointed NBC's lead Premier League commentator in the summer, he worked for fellow American broadcaster CBS Sports and Premier League Productions.

English fans have been able to listen to him on some of BT Sport's European coverage and Amazon Prime's limited Prem offerings in recent years, but there's increased calls for his full-time return by the month.
