Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed the Professional Game Match Officials have admitted his side were incorrectly denied a penalty during their 0-0 draw away at Manchester United on October 24.
The Blues played their part in a fairly uneventful stalemate with United at Old Trafford, failing to carve out many clear-cut opportunities on the night.
However, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta felt they deserved a penalty when he was brought down by Red Devils skipper Harry Maguire in the box five minutes before half-time.
Referee Martin Atkinson chose not to award the spot-kick, nevertheless, and despite replays appearing to show Maguire placing Azpilicueta in a headlock VAR officials also deemed his decision the right one.
The controversial call left fans and pundits bemused, with former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink accusing Maguire of “strangling” Azpilicueta during Sky Sports’ live coverage of the match.
And two weeks on from the incident, Lampard has confirmed the PGMOL have told him the Blues should have been awarded a penalty in Manchester.
“The one against Manchester United recently for us, that goes against us, we've inquired about the reasons for that decision,” he said.
“We've been told that it was a penalty; VAR didn't take much time to look at it.
“And that goes against us and possibly, probably, lost us two points on the day.”
Lampard shed light on the PGMOL’s admission after Chelsea were awarded two penalties during their 3-0 win over Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Many felt the second decision, which saw Rennes defender Dalbert Henrique sent off for a controversial handball, was a harsh one at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard added: “I think the handball rule we adjusted in the Premier League, not being adjusted in the Champions League and from FIFA it seems, it's a rule that I think universally is disliked by anyone who plays, watches or supports football.

“I can't back it in midweek even though it gives us a penalty and a red card, because it just doesn't feel right. I think that has to be looked at in Europe in terms of how we move forward.
“That one goes in our favour, and I think it's important to be open and honest about that, I mentioned it after the game.”
