Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang contract: Arsenal hero explains why Arteta can’t lose star man

Arsenal can’t afford to lose Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang because they will never be able to find another centre-forward who can score as many goals. That is according to Gunners legend Lauren, who insists the north Londoners should make sure Aubameyang signs a new deal tying him to the Emirates for years to come.

The star striker’s contract runs out in June, 2021 and has appeared keen to put pen-to-paper on a new deal after Arsenal’s FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.

However, the Gabon international has yet to shake hands with the Gunners’ hierarchy and many have urged the club to wrap it up as soon as possible.

Aubameyang has proven to be Arsenal’s most essential player ever since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2018 as he has recorded 71 goals in 110 appearances.

Lauren told Goal: “It will be fantastic for the club.

“You can’t go to the market and find another striker who is going to score the same amount of goals.

“For the last three years he’s been the best player for Arsenal. So you must sign this guy.”

Lauren is impressed with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s work and the style of play he has implemented within the team.

The former Cameroon international claims the Gunners are now performing the “Arsenal way” thanks to their good passing game that helps them dominate possession and play from the back.

Lauren added: “So far Arteta has been brilliant.

“He managed to qualify the team for Europe, he won the FA Cup and the Community Shield against big teams. And you can see the style of play. This is what I love.

“Play from the back with a good passing game, dominate matches with possession and have a good transition at the end. This has always been Arsenal. This is the Arsenal way.”

Lauren knows all about success at Arsenal as he was part of the legendary Invincibles, who made history in 2004 by winning the Premier League undefeated.

The former right-back has played with some of the club’s all-time greatest legends, such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and many more.

The 43-year-old joined Arsenal from Mallorca in 2000 after turning down a move to Real Madrid and recorded a total of 241 appearances across all competitions in the space of seven years.
