Miralem Pjanic has accused Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman of disrespecting him after joining Besiktas on loan.

The midfielder endured a frustrating season at the Nou Camp as he struggled to command a regular starting berth and criticised the lack of communication from Koeman.

Pjanic agreed to a salary cut of £3.4million (€4million), with Barcelona to continue paying him while he is on loan. In addition Pjanic will receive a £2.4million salary (€2.75million) from Besiktas, as reported by Bolavip.

Miralem Pjanic has criticised Ronald Koeman, saying the Barcelona boss killed his confidence

Pjanic stressed that a lack of communication from Koeman was a major source of frustration

Asked if he was disrespected at Barcelona, Pjanic told Marca: ‘The coach, yes.

‘I couldn’t get used to the situation I faced last year. I knew I didn’t want it. I’m a player. I love playing football, this is what makes me happy.

‘I always wanted to play for Barca but I didn’t expect the situation to get so complicated.’

Pjanic added that Koeman was ‘killing his confidence’ by not informing him why he wasn’t playing frequently.

He continued: ‘There was a point that I was playing less, things were getting complicated. And when I played it was difficult physically and mentally to be well, because it was killing my confidence, because I had no communication with [Koeman].

‘It was very strange, because a coach is the one who says who plays and who doesn’t, but there are different ways to do things. I am a player who can accept everything but I would always like to be told things face to face. Not as if nothing happened and I was 15 years old.’

Pjanic, who has joined Besiktas on loan, has agreed a £3.4million pay cut at Barcelona

Pjanic made his frustrations with the Barcelona boss clear during an interview with Marca

Despite the difficulties he endured at Barcelona, Pjanic doesn’t have any regrets about the move.

He said: ‘No, never. In life things that have to happen, happen. It is like that. I have fought all my life and my career, I am very ambitious, very competitive, I have reached the level of Juventus and Barca.

‘I know that I can play for this team, they just haven’t given me the chance to compete, to join a group, to help more.’

Barcelona were eager for Pjanic to take a pay cut so that they could save further funds. Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba have all taken pay cuts, while there have been some significant departures from the club, most notably Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.

Pjanic, who joined for £55million, was restricted to just six domestic starts for Barcelona last season, with injuries not helping his cause.

Although he won many trophies at Juventus, including four Serie A titles and two Coppa Italias, Pjanic was unable to secure any silverware at Barcelona.

The 31-year-old has three years remaining on his contract at Barcelona but if he impresses at Besiktas then it could be the precursor to a permanent move.
