Just mere months after signing a new contract, Kylian Mbappe’s future at PSG is up in the air. The France international is unhappy at the club, believing they’ve broken promises made to him back in the summer. Now, with his relationship with the club described as ‘broken’, the prospect of a departure in January is looking increasingly likely…
Mbappe signed a new contract at PSG back in the summer believing he’d be calling the shots at the club.
Yet that hasn’t happened and, according to BBC Sport journalist Julien Laurens, he now feels unhappy as a result. Laurens said: “He feels betrayed by the club in the sense that all the things the club promised him when he signed that new deal until 2025 have not happened.
“The promises they would sign a new striker so he could play in his best position off the striker, that Neymar wouldn’t be there and he would be sold, that they would sign a centre-back, and he would be at the centre of the project. All of these things have not happened.
“We knew there were tensions and now he has made his mind up and he doesn’t want to be there.
“He feels he made a mistake by extending his contract and he should have left in the summer, now he is looking at the January transfer window at where he could go.”
So, with Mbappe looking to leave PSG in the New Year, Express Sport will now take a look at four amazing players who could replace the 2018 World Cup winner.

Let’s start with the obvious.
If Mbappe was to leave PSG, it’s almost certain the Ligue 1 giants would consider a blockbuster move for Haaland behind the scenes.
There’s nothing to suggest the Norway international would leave City right now, especially just a few months on from his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
But if City were to win the lot this season, Haaland could feasibly consider his mission at the Etihad accomplished already.
PSG looked at signing Haaland when Mbappe was being linked with a move away in January, so resisting interest certainly can’t be ruled out.
Mohamed Salah, like Mbappe, signed a new contract back in the summer.
Despite being linked with many of Europe’s elite, Liverpool were able to keep hold of their talisman – much to the delight of FSG and Jurgen Klopp.
In the time since, however, the Reds have struggled with their talisman’s powers appearing to be waning.
A new challenge, potentially at PSG, could appeal to Salah if the opportunity was to arise.
And Liverpool could even try and broker a swap deal that would see Mbappe, who has long been of interest, come to Anfield in the New Year.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently scored his first goal of the season from open play, netting in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday.
But he still wants to leave Old Trafford as he enters the twilight years of his career.
Though Ronaldo’s powers aren’t what they used to be, the 37-year-old remains a formidable goalscorer and model professional.
He could have a huge impact on the Ligue 1 titans’ dressing room, while the prospect of playing alongside Lionel Messi – after so many years of being rivals – may hold some romance to it.
PSG have kept tabs on Ronaldo before and, if Mbappe goes, signing the United star as a Galactico replacement could be too tough to turn down.
Harry Kane is ticking along well at Tottenham, with the England international continuing to shine.
However, with Manchester City so dominant and Arsenal looking good this term, Spurs still look unlikely to win a trophy.
Tottenham haven’t won any silverware since 2008, something Kane is aware of as he enters the prime years of his career.
Moving to PSG, where he’d be virtually guaranteed to win the title every year, is something that would potentially appeal to Kane.
Likewise the prospect of playing alongside Messi and Neymar, who are still going strong this term at a time where Mbappe wants out.
