PSG chief Leonardo provides update on Kylian Mbappe and Neymar contract talks

Paris Saint-Germain's sporting director Leonardo says the club will "decide soon" on the future of Kylian Mbappe as the youngster's contract heads towards its final 12 months.

Mbappe's current deal expires in 2022 and PSG are looking to tie him down to an extension sooner rather than later.

Recent reports claim the 22-year-old is not planning on committing to anything before next season, by which time PSG will be at risk of losing him for nothing.

However, Leonardo insists discussions with the player are ongoing and a decision is imminent.

“I was surprised at the judgments about Kylian," he said. "He has a course. Its position is every time more important.

"He already has the responsibilities. Then there is the constancy, the path. We talk, we've been talking for a long time.

"Our position is clear, we know what we want. We will arrive at the moment when a decision will be made. We have a good opening of the dialogue. We'll decide soon."

PSG could look to try and offload Mbappe this summer if they fail to convince him to sign a new deal.

Very few clubs could afford to sign the Frenchman, though Real Madrid and Liverpool are the two sides being consistently linked.

PSG are also hopeful of reaching an agreement with world-record signing Neymar, whose contract is also due to finish next year.

“We also talk. We are on the right track,' Leonardo added. "The contract is not yet signed. We arrive at a good time with him.

"The goal is to get to the end as quickly as possible. With Angel Di Maria and Juan Bernat too. We want to renew the four.

"We talked less with [Julian] Draxler who has had fewer opportunities to play in recent years. He is a player who is still important for the club."
