Former Manchester United defender Rafael has revealed he wants the Premier League season to be voided so arch rivals Liverpool are denied their first title in 30 years.

Liverpool had lead the Premier League table by 25 points before English football was brought to a halt by the spread of the coronavirus in the UK, with chiefs trying to find a way to salvage the season. 

And Rafael, who won three Premier League titles during his seven-year spell at Old Trafford, has said it would be ‘great’ if the season was ended now, showing there’s no love lost in the rivalry.

Calls have been made to cancel the season amid the spread of the deadly coronavirus 

When asked by the club’s website what he sees as his greatest success, the Brazilian. said: ‘I always say that when you get to 18 titles, and when you pass Liverpool. Everybody’s talking about ‘stop the competition’, no? They don’t get to 20!

‘It will be hard for them [if the Premier League season is voided], [but] great for us.’

It would mean that Liverpool, who are 25 points ahead, would be denied the league title

Rafael, who won three Premier Leagues, said it would be great for his old club if that happened

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have coasted for the duration of the season, were just two wins away from securing their title before the Premier League stopped the season amid health concerns. 

The suspension of football has thrown up a whole series of problems that must be dealt with, including when the season can be resumed and whether players will take a wage cut. 

In the UK, 9,875 people have died from the deadly disease as the country continues to battle against the spread of the coronavirus.
