Robbie Savage was forced to step in as peacemaker when fighting erupted during Monday’s Cheshire derby match between Macclesfield and Congleton Town.
The former Wales international is a member of the board and director of football at North West Counties Premier Division side Macclesfield.
The Silkmen were formed as the successor to Macclesfield Town which was wound-up in September 2020 after long-running financial problems
Savage has been involved with the phoenix club since its inception and has frequently been spotted attending games at the Leasing.com Stadium.
With no matches above the National League level taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, Savage opted to watch the Silkmen’s clash with Congleton.
It was a top of the table match, as well as a Cheshire derby, with the visitor sitting one point behind Macclesfield heading into the game.
There was a sell-out crowd watching on, with 3,500 supporters packed into the Leasing.com Stadium, though no segregation took place.
There was a feisty atmosphere throughout the game, with flares being let off even before the match kicked-off.
Tempers boiled over into a full-on mass brawl between rival groups of fans standing behind one of the goals though, with the match being halted as a result.

With a reportedly minimal police presence and stewards not stepping in, Savage sprinted over from his position in the stands to step in.
Videos emerged on social media of the Macclesfield chief in the stands trying to separate the fighting fans.
Along with a group of stewards, the Welshman then directed the brawlers out of the ground to allow the game to restart.
As he was pushing them towards the exits, Savage could be seen arguing with those who were being ejected before making his way back to his seat.

Though he will have been angered by the violent scenes that played out at the Leasing.com Stadium, Savage will have been delighted with how Macclesfield players handled the incident.
The hosts took the lead 11 minutes into the second-half when James Berry-McNally cut in from the left, before curling the ball around the outstretched Congleton keeper.
The win puts Danny Whitaker’s side three points clear at the top of the North West Counties Premier Division table.
