Roberto Carlos slams his ex-boss Roy Hodgson for "destroying" him at Inter Milan

Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos has launched a scathing attack on his former Inter Milan boss Roy Hodgson for "destroying" him during his time in Italy.

Former left-back Carlos would find fame at Real Madrid after joining the Spanish giants in 1996, winning three Champions Leagues and four La Liga titles during his time in the Spanish capital.

Carlos also picked up the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, but he says that Hodgson's use of him in Milan – where the current Crystal Palace boss was in charge betwen 1995 and 1997 – threatened his participation with the national team.

"Roy Hodgson destroyed me," Carlos told Marca.

"He made me play in the centre of midfield. I wasn't going to get a chance to play for Brazil like that and there was a Copa America in 1997.

"It's not that we got on badly, it's that he didn't know much about football."

Carlos had joined Inter from Palmeiras in the summer of 1995, but he would spend just one season in Serie A before moving on to Madrid, from where he wouldn't look back as he went on to be regarded as the finest left-back in the world.
