Roy Keane accuses Man City’s Sergio Aguero of ‘piling on the pounds’ while recovering from injury

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has accused Sergio Aguero of returning from injury overweight earlier this season.

Aguero was left out of Man City’s squad to face Liverpool on Sunday, with the hosts coming from behind to draw 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium after Gabriel Jesus cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s penalty in the first half.

Aguero was absent as he continues his recovery from a hamstring issue, which he sustained earlier this term after returning from a knee injury.

And Keane has suggested that the striker has not been looking after himself as best as he could.

“My issue with Aguero when he came back was he looked overweight,” Keane said of the 32-year-old on Sky Sports.

“God knows what size shorts he was wearing. He did look really heavy.

“Sometimes you can be out injured and hit the ground running. This idea that players need two or three months to get up to speed…

“I was worried; when he came back he looked really, really heavy.

“It’s difficult to get up to speed, but don’t be piling on the pounds.”

It was Kyle Walker’s foul on Sadio Mane that led to Salah’s penalty on 13 minutes in Sunday’s Premier League clash between City and Liverpool, with the Egpyt international confidently converting from the spot.

Jesus then pulled off a neat turn in the Reds’ box just after the half-hour mark to set up a finish and level the score.

Kevin De Bruyne had the chance to give City the lead shortly before half-time but dragged a penalty wide after a handball was controversially given against Joe Gomez.

City’s next fixture – after the international break – sees them travel to Tottenham on 21 November, while Liverpool host Leicester in the top flight on the same day.
