Sancho to Man Utd ‘will happen’ on one condition as Chelsea and Liverpool message sent

Manchester United will sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho if the England international has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, Danny Murphy claims. However, the former Premier League midfielder says Sancho knows he’ll have the option to join the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea or Real Madrid next summer.

United have made the former Manchester City winger their top transfer target.

However, the Red Devils and Dortmund are miles apart on their valuation of the 20-year-old.

The German giants want around £108m for Sancho, while United ae hoping to agree a cheaper deal of around £80m due to the affects of the coronavirus pandemic.

It remains to be seen whether Sancho will force through a move to Old Trafford before the transfer window shuts in October.

And Murphy says United will land Sancho if the winger has his heart set on the move.

However, the former Premier League midfielder says Sancho knows the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid could have more money to table an offer next summer.

Murphy wrote in his Mail column: “Jadon Sancho is a superstar in waiting. His goals and assists are remarkable for a 20-year-old and his decision to leave Manchester City for a different challenge abroad three years ago says a lot about his belief and mentality.

“His future is attracting plenty of attention right now, centred on whether Manchester United would pay Borussia Dortmund a British transfer record of £108million for him.

“It’s an obvious question but having been around football virtually my whole life, I don’t think the fee is the only factor in play here.

“I believe the role of Sancho himself in determining his future is equally important. We don’t know yet how badly he wants to move to Old Trafford, if at all, but what happens next will give us a clue.

“United wouldn’t ideally pay such a huge sum for one player but Sancho is about as risk-free as you can get.

“He’d improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team as an attacking force and appeal commercially because his type of skilful player is a magnet for supporters who want to buy the coolest shirt.

“It’s unlikely United would have embarked on the chase without some kind of encouragement but in my experience deals of this size only happen if the player really wants to go.

“United are an attractive proposition, one of the biggest clubs in the world with a young and exciting team, but Sancho won’t be short of suitors in his career and he’ll be aware that in a year’s time, when football finances are a bit steadier, he may have a choice that also includes Liverpool, his ‘local’ team Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“It’s possible he may prefer to wait and weigh up his options after the Euros next summer rather than rocking the boat now by telling Dortmund he wants to leave.

“If that’s the case and United are fighting against an inflated fee and a player considering other options, they have a problem.

“If his heart really is set on joining United, there are ways of letting all relevant parties aware.”

United are back in action on Sunday night in their Europa League semi-final against Sevilla.
