Manchester United’s players have been battling it out to record the quickest time across 5km during lockdown, with Scott McTominay emerging victorious.
According to team-mate Daniel James, the combative midfielder demonstrated the best stamina and speed over the distance and has set a difficult milestone for United’s squad to aspire to.
The Old Trafford outfit have demonstrated a newfound competitiveness this campaign, and continue to set themselves challenges with football indefinitely suspended.

James revealed: ‘A lot of the boys are going outside, doing runs and sending them in. It’s a competition to get the best 5k time.
‘It’s been good, nice and competitive still.
‘Scott is winning at the moment and I don’t think anyone is going to top it.’
With the Premier League having been placed on hold due to the coronavirus crisis, players have been working on their individual programmes to gear up for the eventual restart.
And United’s players are no different, although the top-four chasers have also taken part in a challenge which is currently sweeping the nation.

To encourage physical activity, and to help fund the NHS during the health emergency, members of the public have been setting a time over 5km and then encouraging friends to take part.
Several top flight stars have also got involved, with Chelsea star Ross Barkley among those to complete the run.
Wales international James’ rapid pace has previously been highlighted by national team boss, and United legend, Ryan Giggs – with the wing wizard having recorded a speed of 21.76mph against Leicester in September.
James has made 37 appearances in all competitions during his first season at Old Trafford, scoring four goals and making seven assists.
