Manchester United have a plan in place after their interest in Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon became apparent.
The Red Devils aren’t exactly short on full-backs, and have enough cover in case of multiple injuries in the position.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be keen to add Reguilon, who spent last season on loan with Europa League winners Sevilla, to his ranks.
It was clear that the Spaniard had a huge amount to offer in the left-back role, but United are already fully covered in that area.
Or are they?
Luke Shaw is still thought to be Solskjaer’s first choice left-back, though he lost his place to academy graduate Brandon Williams towards the end of last season.
However, Williams, who is naturally right footed, actually grew up playing on the other side of defence.
And the MEN suggest it may be wise to allow him to play in a more natural role to ensure his long-term future with the club.
He would provide able back up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka – providing a space for Reguilon to compete with Shaw for the left-back spot.
It may not be a necessary use of funds, but it’s one which will bolster the quality of Solskjaer’s squad; something which can only help United in their pursuit of silverware.
That would likely pave they way out for Diogo Dalot to leave United, having remained on the fringes during his two years at Old Trafford.
