Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon is set to snub Manchester United and seal a £27.5million switch to Tottenham.
Reguilon, 23, is hot property in European football this summer following an impressive loan stint at Sevilla last season.
The Spanish club were in pole position to re-sign him from Madrid on another season-long loan, yet their £9million deal for Argentinian left-back Marcos Acuna has all but confirms they are no longer in the running.
It was believed Acuna’s move to Sevilla left United, who have been heavily linked with a permanent switch for the player, in the driving seat.
But according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, former boss Jose Mourinho has hijacked their move for Reguilon.
Romano posted on Twitter: “Just in: Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham, here we go soon! The agreement has been reached on last few hours with Real Madrid for €30m [£27.5m] as final fee. Reguilon agreed personal terms with Spurs and accepted to join also after talks with #MUFC. Only paperworks to be signed.”
The news comes as a major blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is determined to add another left-back to his ranks amid concerns over Luke Shaw’s fitness at Old Trafford.
United are understood to have hit a stumbling block in negotiations when Real demanded a buy-back clause was included in the deal, which they were not prepared to accept.
And their reluctance to do so has opened the door for Premier League rivals Spurs to swoop in and lure Reguilon to north London.
Mourinho is eager to strengthen his squad following their disappointing 1-0 opening day defeat against Everton last Sunday, with reports suggesting he is eyeing up a potential move for another Madrid star in Gareth Bale.

Bale, 31, has been deemed surplus to requirements by Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, meaning Los Blancos officials are determined to get his £14million-a-year wages off their books.
United are also said to be interested in signing the Welshman, but The Telegraph claim Spurs are ready to hijack another one of their deals by offering Real a swap deal that would see Dele Alli head in the opposite direction.
